Rock Garnet Sand VS Green Garnet Sand

1. Mineral Nature and Classification: Rock Garnet: Primarily refers to natural garnet sand produced by mining vein rocks, followed by crushing, grinding, and sieving. It is mostly almandine, ranging in color from slightly reddish to dark red, with extremely sharp edges.

Green Sandblasting Garnet: In sandblasting abrasives, greenish garnet usually refers to grossular garnet (such as green sand garnet) or garnet containing special mineral symbiotic elements. Because it does not contain free silica, it is often used in environmentally friendly, dust-free sandblasting operations.

2. Morphology and Cutting Performance: Rock Garnet (Angular): Due to being formed from crushed hard rock, the particle surface has sharp, pointed edges. Extremely strong cutting force, making it ideal for precision waterjet cutting or sandblasting requiring high surface roughness in industry.

Green sandblasting garnet (polygonal/spherical): This type of garnet, due to its moderate hardness and good toughness, is often processed into specific mesh sizes for dust-free sandblasting. It can remove oxide scale from metal surfaces with high-speed impact and is not easily embedded in the workpiece.

3. Hardness and density (reference indicators): Rock sand garnet (almandine garnet): Mohs hardness approximately 7.5 (sim 8.0), density approximately 4.0 (sim 4.2 g/cm^3). Due to its high specific gravity, it has high impact kinetic energy during sandblasting, resulting in extremely high rust removal efficiency.

Green sandblasting garnet (mainly grossular garnet): Mohs hardness approximately 7.0 (sim 7.5), relatively light density. Good wear resistance, preventing damage to the substrate during specific paint removal and cleaning of soft metal surfaces.

4. Main Industrial Applications of Rock Sand Garnet: Widely used in high-pressure water jet cutting processes, as well as high-standard sandblasting and rust removal (up to Sa3 highest grade) for steel structures, storage tanks, and ship hulls.

Green Sandblasting Garnet: Specifically designed for surface strengthening, glass etching, surface cleaning of light metals such as aluminum/titanium, and in working environments with extremely high dust and environmental protection requirements.
